Working Collectively To Preserve The Culture
Malcolm X College holds a longstanding tradition of hosting all seven days of Kwanzaa, uplifting community, culture, and the principles that guide the holiday. This year, each day is led by organizations dedicated to preserving and celebrating African Diasporic traditions. Chi-Village, alongside The Daughters of Haiti, Betty Shabazz International Charter School, The Metro Board of the Chicago Urban League, Liberated Arts Movement, and Culture & Collab, will co-produce a day at the celebration.
Come out for the Ujamaa celebration on Monday, December 29th, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
This is the 3rd Annual Chi-Village Kwanzaa Celebration, centered on the enduring power of community, collaboration, and intergenerational relationships. We continue to stand proudly in our cultural identity as we build and maintain our institutions within the community. This year, we come together to reflect on the living legacy of our elders and the work of our ancestors as we bloom together, grow together, plant new seeds together, and uplift the culture with intention, creativity, and love.
Together, we recommit to cultural preservation, economic empowerment, and the elevation of individual and collective consciousness as we work to sustain and strengthen our village for generations to come.
"It is our responsibility to preserve the cultural integrity of Kwanzaa against anyone or anything that seeks to undermine it. Because that is the legacy that we've inherited, and that's our responsibility."
